this isn’t actually all I want to do with Nef actually (I actually did this just to get comfortable with the face shape), but deo, I’m curious, do you have another character that I could throw in to convey a sense of enormity? there’s a li’l spoof idea I’d like to do, and it rhymes with ‘braid’

Hello! I know that our portly Lord Doctor is a leupak (THE Leupak, really), and therefore gender neutral, but fans (including myself) generally still refer to Nef as a "he". Does that bother you at all? Personally, it's just a tough habit for me to break, since neutral pronouns often sound so awkward in third person and we were all introduced to Nef portrayed as a male at first. Is there any better way to go about this? - A curious SRO member.

Hello, there! (You’re sweet, do you know that? You are! :D)
Nef is a rather complicated being for a bunch of reasons— he was born a male Aeneski and became a leupak later accidentally, but in an otherwise unprecedented way that resulted in most of the transformation taking place internally, at least at first glance. And it gets even more complicated than that, too!
The leupaks he interacts with on a regular basis refer to him differently based on their outlook; many use one pronoun but refer to him as the opposite or even both parentwise (“that’s my mom, he’s a bit weird”, etc…). He’s pretty much okay with however people refer to him as long as they’re being respectful, especially since he’s used his former appearance as a disguise among non-leupaks for hundreds of years now. :)
Long story short…er?, he doesn’t have a preference at all, but male pronouns are what he tends to use for the sake of coherency, ease, and familiarity, when he isn’t having a “royal We” moment.
(And if it makes you feel any better, I constantly refer to myself with the wrong pronoun by mistake! It’s not something I mind other people doing at all— I’m more interested in seeing if I can break the habit of 25 years of ‘she’ing, myself, in the hopes of learning to refer to myself in a way I feel most comfortable after spending most of my life defining myself by everyone else’s whims and expectations. I’m fond of a good they/their, in contrast to Nef’s “call me what you want, as long as it isn’t late to dinner”!)
But really, thank you for asking this. You’re awesome, and Nef agrees. :) -
